A moving-out timeline that protects your bond
The week before handover is when bond cleans fail. This timeline leaves enough time for carpet, the oven and a final walk-through.
Most failed inspections happen because the clean was booked for the same morning as the key return. There is no time to dry the floors or fix a missed tray.
Seven days out
Confirm the vacate date with the agent and book the clean for the day after the truck, not the day of. If carpets are on the lease, book steam cleaning after the bond clean so furniture is already gone.
Two days out
- Defrost the fridge and wipe the cavity once it is dry
- Patch picture-hook holes if the lease asks for it
- Collect spare keys, remotes and parking passes
Handover day
Walk the property in daylight with the entry report. Photograph each room after the clean, including inside the oven and the shower floor. Send those photos with the keys so a later dispute has a timestamp.
Leaving a note with your phone number helps if the agent finds one item. A same-week re-clean is simpler than arguing about it after the bond is lodged.

Carpet steam cleaning versus a hire machine
